NHS Hackday 2015

30th January 2015 by Martin Chorley

This weekend staff and students from the MSc in Computational Journalism took part in the Cardiff NHS Hackday 2015. Our liveblog of the event is here, and you can see our final product online, with all the code available in our GitHub repository.

We’ve created the foundation for a project (Health Explorer Wales) that can visualise all sorts of health related data across the local authorities and local health boards of Wales. We’ll look to improve this over the coming weeks, with the hope that it can find a community willing to adopt it and drive it forwards in the future.

Welcome to the MSc in Computational and Data Journalism

26th September 2014 by admin

Richard Sambrook

Welcome to Cardiff, the University, and our exciting new course in Computational and Data Journalism. We are really looking forward to meeting you very shortly and starting work!

Cardiff is a very welcoming city for students – wherever they are from – and I am sure you will find your way around and settle in swiftly. However if you need advice or help the University has support services who are here to ensure you have the best start possible. Just let us know if you are concerned about anything.

The School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies (JOMEC) and the School of Computer Science & Informatics (COMSC) are leading centres for teaching and research in their fields which attract students from around the world. So you will be in good company.

Formal sessions start in September where you will meet your fellow students on the MSc and students on other Masters courses who you will be working alongside. We have an exciting programme lined up for you – so have a safe journey and see you soon.

Best wishes

Prof Richard Sambrook
